#1. Brush your teeth at least twice a day.
If you do nothing else for your oral health, you should at least brush your teeth twice a day. Brushing removes the bacteria that can cause gum disease and tooth decay.
#2. Floss on a daily basis.
Flossing is incredibly important because it reaches the bacteria in between your teeth that your toothbrush can’t. Not only does removing this bacteria help to prevent gum disease, which can lead to bone loss around teeth and eventually tooth loss if left untreated.
#3. Don’t skip dental appointments.
It’s important to visit your dentist regularly. It may not seem like a big deal to cancel your dental appointment when you’re busy, but these visits allows your dentist to keep a close eye on your oral health and to catch dental problems early on when they can still be easily treated or corrected. Because most dental disease is not pain until it is very advanced, it is to your benefit to stay on track with your dental visits.
#4. Focus on eating healthy.
Believe it or not, your diet plays a role in the beauty of your smile! Avoid foods that can lead to cavities and add foods that will help strenghten your teeth. Limit the amount of sugar you consume. Processed foods often have a lot of sugar that you don’t even realize are added and by reading the label, you’ll be more informed about what you’re fueling your body with. It also important to consume plenty of calcium to help maintain strong teeth. Foods that are high in calcium include dairy, kale and almonds.
