There are many things that can damage and discolor your teeth, and some of them may even surprise you.

Most people are well aware that coffee can stain their teeth and sugar-packed snacks can lead to cavities, but some things that can end up damaging or discoloring your teeth are not so obvious. In our last blog, our dentist in Lawrence went over a couple surprising things that can damage and discolor your teeth. Here are a few more:

#3. Chewable Vitamins

You don’t have to be a kid to enjoy chewable vitamins anymore! They now make gummy vitamins for adults as well. These delicious vitamins taste a whole lot like candy, and with good reason, they often contain more sugar than nutrients. Plus, since they are gummy, they stick to your teeth, leading to cavities.

#4. Swimming

Swimming is a great way to get your heart beating and exercise your whole body, but if you swim more than six hours a week, you may notice brown stains starting to develop on your teeth. When your saliva mixes with certain pool chemicals, it can lead to these brown stains, which are known as “swimmer’s calculus.”

#5. Some Medications

Did you know that some medication could yellow your teeth? Blood pressure medication, antihistamines and antipsychotic medications are the most common that can stain your teeth. If you take any of these kinds of medications and you’re teeth are becoming discolored because of it, ask your doctor about alternatives.
