At James Otten Dentistry, our dentist in Lawrence wants to make your dental implant recovery as smooth as possible.

Nothing can reinvigorate your smile like dental implants can. However, in order to get dental implants, you have to have oral surgery, and like any surgery, there is a recovery period.  The good news is that our dentist in Lawrence is dedicated to helping you recover from your dental implant surgery as smoothly and painlessly as possible, and we’ve come up with this list of tips to help:

#1. Include plenty of soft, healthy foods in your diet.

When you first get dental implants, you don’t want to avoid stressing the implant site which means you’ll want to eat soft, nutritious food. It’s also important to avoid foods that are brittle and hard as this could cause problems with sutures or trauma to your tissue. Your best bet is to choose softer foods, such as yogurt, apple sauce, soup and mashed potatoes. As you heal, you can begin incorporating foods that are of more substance and harder texture in your diet, just make sure that you talk to your surgeon or dentist for specifics.

#2. Don’t forget to take your medication.

In the first few days of the healing process, you may feel pain or discomfort. By taking your medications as directed, you can stay ahead of the pain and discomfort. Set an alarm so that you take your medications on time every day. It is critical that you take your medications are it is prescribed by your dentist or surgeon.
