Implant Dentistry
Perhaps there is no more significant way to restore oral health and function than with dental implants. Implant technology has provided us the opportunity to give back to our patients’ teeth that are amazingly close to the best natural ones that have been lost.
The examples below show both individual teeth that we have replaced with single implants as well as sophisticated structures that through bioengineering have the capacity to securely attach an entire set of teeth where none are left. Indeed, dental implants can be a life-changing experience for denture wearers, giving them 4-5 times the functional capacity that they had with dentures alone.
What You Should Know Before Choosing Dental Implants
While dental implants represent a highly predictable way of replacing teeth, principles of bioengineering and biomechanics must be understood by the practitioner to have good long-term results. Most importantly is the recognition of the important differences between natural teeth and implants and how the forces on each must be uniquely and precisely balanced for lasting results.
In esthetic areas, like the upper front teeth, principles of proper tissue mechanics and tissue response must also be added to the equation. As is the case with most dentistry, the use of dental implants requires careful analysis, planning and a coordinated effort between the restorative dentist and other specialists who may be involved.

Using 3-Dimensional CT Scans
The use of 3-dimensional CT scans has now greatly enhanced our ability to achieve precise and predictable results. These images give us a clear view of the potential implant sites in 3 dimensions. In fact, we are now able to actually build an entire physical model of the bones of the jaw by using this technology. This will allow us the opportunity to actually do the surgery on the model in advance making the actual procedure less invasive (requiring less “cutting”), more accurate and much faster. We anticipate within the next year we can place implants and immediately attach an entire set of teeth to them in a matter of hours!
